by Ernest E. Finklea Schlumberger Limited New York

ABSTRACT

In attempting to provide a resume of the present state of the art, it is convenient to consider: -1) methods for putting logging information in a form readily acceptable as input to the computer, and -2) having the information in such a form, various applications of log data handling and processing that have been developed utilizing the computer. These are reviewed taking into consideration whether the application is directed toward use at the well site or at an office or log processing center. A review of well log terminology emphasizing computer usage and data handling is included as an appendix.
