A NEW TECHNIQUE FOR APPROXIMATING DRILLING FLUID FILTRATION

ABSTRACT

A new technique for approximating the invasion diameter of mud filtrate has been developed for use in the analysis of well logs. Application of this technique requires some knowledge of the general mud composition, API filter loss, annual mud velocity, bottom hole temperature and pressure, formation porosity, and length of time subjected to mud circulation.

This paper presents equations applicable to gel-base, oil-base, and emulsion mud systems. The equations were derived through the use of experimental data published in the literature.
