ABSTRACT
On March 18,1976 was found the Mexican Chapter of the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts, the name in Spanish is Asociacion Mexicana de Ingenieros Y Tecnicos en Registros Geofsicos de Pozos. During these five years this small group was concern with letting information through conferences and short courses about the importance and usefulness of well logging in exploration and exploitation of energetic and mineral resources in the different Mexican Institutions.
Now during the realization of the XXII SPWIA Symposium in Mexico City a general panorama on Mexican Energetic Resources and the use of well logging during the exploration and productions of hydrocarbons, geothermic, coal and water will be presented.
Mexico is now a country that has a prominent place in the petroleum world ambit. It’s reserves are up-to-date of 67,000x106 barrels and actual production is 2,550.000 barrels per day. The area of Mexico including the sea area to the bathymetrical curve of 200m is approximately 2.5 x 106 smare kilometers. From which 70% of the outcropping rocks are sedimentary and oil exploration of such is done through four operations centers which are called zone superintendencies.
The northeastern zone with the operation center in Reynosa, Tamps., the northern zone with the operation center in Tampico,Tamps., the central zone with the operational center in Poza Rica, Ver., and the southern zone with the operational center in Coatzacoalcos,Ver.
Production today, comes only from the coastal plain of the Mexican Gulf, but there is intense exploration throughout the country. Including the pacific coast there are many groups of geo-logical gravimetrical, magnetometrical and seismological explorations. 72 drilling equipments are presently working in exploratory and 129 development wells; the areas of greater activity and priority are: Campeche sound, Mesozoic Gulf of Sabinas.
