ABSTRACT

Three examples demonstrate applications of production logs at successive stages of a well’s lifetime: while drilling; during primary recovery; and during tertiary recovery.

The examples illustrate the broad utility of modern production logs. To benefit the log analyst the discussions of the examples point out reliable interpretive techniques and identify serious interpretive pitfalls caused by inappropriate techniques or by limitations of the logs themselves. In particular, the discussions indicate limitations of presently available logging tools for profiling oil production under water-alternating-gas (WAG) recovery, and point directions that future tool designs should take.
