Bibliography of Well-Log Applications
1997 Annual Update Compiled by Stephen E. Prensky
U.S. Minerals Management Service, New Orleans, Louisiana

Introduction

The purpose of this bibliography is to emphasize the application and various uses of well-log data. The following general criteria are applied to papers to determine whether they will be included: 1) the paper must be written in English, 2) it must be obtainable by a research library, and 3) most of the paper should discuss a particular application of well-log data or have immediate impact on the use of such data. For lack of space, abstracts are excluded (except for extended abstracts) and cross-indexing has been kept to a minimum. This update contains 1500 new and updated citations.

Readers who have followed the development of this bibliography will note that it has expanded and evolved with time. Subject headings have been split and additional headings have been added as warranted. In addition, I have tended towards a broader viewpoint than when I first began this project 10 years ago. Many papers, while not strictly log-application papers, have been added to provide additional background or supporting information for a fuller understanding and improved interpretation of the logging data. This year's update contains special emphasis on borehole imaging, NMR principles and logging, and gas hydrates.

I wish to acknowledge individuals whose assistance in acquiring difficult-to-obtain papers has added significantly to the value of this work: Stephen Pomes,Minerals Management Service; Elizabeth Black, Mobil Exploration and Production,; Myung Lee, Fred Paillet, and Pat Stamile, U.S. Geological Survey, Jenny Garnham, Enterprise Oil; Robert Skopec, Texaco; Dave Curwen, Suncor; and John Doveton, Kansas Geological Survey.
