Fast Track Scheme

Working within the Business Development group, you will be part of the team responsible for the data analysis & interpretation services of Cased Hole surveys. This is an exciting & unique opportunity for an individual to gain entry &/or further their career within the oil & gas industry as part of a fast-track career development scheme. The scheme focuses on the fast tracking of first class individuals from a junior to senior position via the completion of such criteria as exams, training courses, modules, competencies, practical exercises & presentations. Candidates will be developed both technically & commercially – with the option of further study to Diploma level. Periods of inter-departmental secondments will ensure candidates have the opportunity to cross train & choose their career route upon scheme completion. As candidates progress there are a series of milestones to achieve which will reflect in salary increases & position promotions.

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience of wireline logging, geosciences or data processing, but the application is open to candidates with a degree, or equivalent, in a Science/Engineering/Mathematical discipline. This role is based in Aberdeen but you may be required to travel within Europe and be wiling to perform out-of-hours work as & when required.

Petrophysicist

Kerogen Resources, Inc was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. The primary mission of KRI is to acquire, exploit and develop high quality producing and non-producing shale-gas properties in selected basins in North America.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Generate & develop characterization techniques throughout the company for target formations
  • Develop new shale specific methods to compute TOC, porosity, original gas-in-place, fluid seal locations, mineralogy, and fracture barriers using well log, cuttings and /or core data

The Formation Evaluation team provides log analysis, petrophysical interpretations and related data management to all of Nexen's business units. The group provides on-call technical operational support to drilling operations and manages logging, perforating and logging-while-drilling contracts.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Log analysis, petrophysical interpretations and related data management services delivered to Business Units in a professional and timely manner;
  • Provide on-call technical operational support to drilling and completions operations;
  • Provide well-site supervision for critical operations;

Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President Exploration Services, your Key Tasks and Responsibilities will include:

  • Become familiar with all of the Company’s proprietary software, at a fairly detailed level.
  • Provide exploration interpretation services – interpreting Gravity Gradient Imaging or conventional gravity and magnetics data with available geological data, for the purpose of building geological models.
  • Working with clients – understanding the challenges, constraints and timeframes for project delivery. Ensure that these are communicated to all personnel in the team involved in the service.
  • Build and develop good working relationships with clients.
  • Deliver the project in a timely and professional manner and to a high level of customer satisfaction. Ensure that projects service levels are adhered to.
  • Champion the company’s integrated services and solutions.
  • Be an active member of the technical team striving to improve interpretation services/products.
  • Where required, support the business/sales effort, by assisting in the writing of technical content of proposals.
  • Provide advice and feedback to the software development team on new enhancements or requested changes.
  • Write and deliver papers at conferences. Candidate Requirements: The successful candidate will have:

  • A geophysical or geological degree is essential. MSc level, or PhD level preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with a service or oil company OR a strong academic background in geophysics or structural geological modelling essential.
  • Strong appreciation of the value of an integrated approach to exploration interpretation – the ability to integrate various data sets to maximise value from interpretation essential.
  • Proven experience or strong academic knowledge of structural geology or seismic or gravity and magnetic data interpretation highly advantageous.
  • The ability to build geological models.
  • Knowledge of the application of potential field geophysics to exploration programs – from basin scale geological interpretation to the application of 3D gravity inversion to constrain velocity modelling of salt structures highly advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills – must be able to relate to team members and communicate confidently with clients.
  • Good project management skills – ensuring a high level of client satisfaction at all project stages.
  • Self motivated individual – use initiative and lead. The ability to run projects single-handed if required.
